Cross country team is gearing up for the district meet on Oct. 11th and after a productive year, expectations are high for the team.
“At this meet I expect all of our divisions to place top three and the freshman group to win first. In upcoming meets, I want all divisions to place top four all the way to regionals,” cross country coach Kathy Lehman said. “The kids that are committed to cross country work hard, coming in the morning at 6 a.m. and then training after school.”
Cross country members hope to have high ranks and have a better record than last year.
“The expectations I can see at district is that a lot of people are going to run their best times, place like top 20 for sure. Everyone is doing good right now and I can see them doing better at district for sure,” freshman Jaden Santibaňez said.
The team has high expectations for district, and they expect to meet those expectations by working hard towards their goals.
“The first thing for district is we hope to compete as a team and go to regionals as a team. I need to be a leader and get in the top 10 to secure the lead for Huntsville in the regional race,” senior George Thuita said.
Junior varsity and freshman girls won the meet at Cy Ridge. While Thuita won Galveston and Anderson in first place, Thuita also finished in the top 10 of all the meets. Freshman won the Huntsville meet, and varsity boys won the Anderson meet.
¨Runners to look for at district are George Thulita, Max Mundorff, and Jenin Borbor.
We are a young team look for much more to come,” head coach Lehman said.
